I really like the Elvis ornaments and so do my grandchildren! This year beside the Elvis, I want the Blueberry Muffin ornament. It was my daughter's favorite when she was little.

I will be buying TWO of the "Major Award" ornament, one for me and one for my daughter~! My Mother has a letter my sister and I sent to my grandparents who lived in the country/woods in East Texas where we practically & shamelessly were begging for a BB Gun which by the way we never received, guess because we were GIRLS. I can't believe my Grandmother saved all those letters we wrote her~!!!

AND another one for my daughter Sarah's collection~! Fragile (that's Fra-jee-lay), has a special little memory for us, she was helping me label boxes, she was probably 5 or 6 yrs. old at the time and already a great little reader, in the garage one day to store in the attic and pronounced it "Fra-jee-lay" and still does and we laugh to this day (6th grade now) about it. Gotta love PHONICS vs. whole language and she was reading around a 12th grade level according to testing as early as the 3rd grade.

The Major Award

A hilarious satire of growing up in the 40's, the 1983 movie A Christmas Story is fondly considered a cult classic among the holiday films. This ornament features the garish, glowing "major award" Ralphie's old man won in a newspaper contest. This mini replica of the infamous leg lamp comes complete with three sound clips from the movie and its very own crate marked "Fragile" (that's Fra-jee-lay), which can be hung separately. "Now this is a lamp!"

Deana,

Thanks for posting. What a cute and nice story. Hope you'd break that pattern and get your daughter a BB gun if she asked you for it. I really loved that movie and the wacky lamp. I wish Carlton would have posted the picture of the lamp to see. I'll have to go check one out in the stores.

I pre-purchased the two Carlton "A Christmas Story" ornaments from Jeff Voesack (Long Island Treasures) and received them about a month ago. They are just great! Aside from the one described below, there is a smaller one of little brother Randy in his huge snowsuit. When you pull the string at the bottom, his arms stick out like they do in the movie. Very cute!

"A Christmas Story" is my favorite holiday movie. Last year, I even bought my husband a real-"working" replica Leg Lamp online. It is only about 2-feet tall, but has the stocking-ed leg and frilled-shade. In case you are wondering, NO we do not display it in our front window , but in our bedroom!

PS I have also bought other Carlton ornaments in the past (Rugrats), but did not like the quality as much as the "A Christmas Story" ones.

Jeff has a picture of the inside of the crate with the wacky lamp visible on his site. http://www.litreasures.com/xcart/customer/product.php?productid=17499&cat=&page=
It's a good time to go Carlton shopping. I received an email from them last week advertising a "buy one get one 50% off" sale. If you don't have a Carlton near you, Jeff also has his ornaments on sale, I think 20% off.
Besides the Christmas Story ornaments (they also have the little brother Randy all bundled up to go outside and unable to put his arms down - LOL), another ornament on our must list is Godzilla. It will make the perfect commemorative of our trip to Japan earlier this year.

Thank you for the tip Mark. I emailed my niece to put a bid on this for me and WE WON!

This is going to make a very nice table ornament.

If I do not clear out the back room and get rid of a chair in our livingroom, I will not be able to put our Christmas Tree up.

My ornaments and tree are stored in a closet in the back room. We are storing my MIL's items in that room, making it impossible to get things out of that Closet. If I do not get my rear in gear, I will not have a tree to put up.

The chair is from my MIL's house and it is using up the space our tree goes. I told our youngest daughter that if her brother does not want it, she will be getting it for her family room. One way or another, that chair and the items in the back room will be gone by November.

I purchased both Main Attraction and Silent Night from Long Island Treasures back when Mark first posted about them. Silent Night has very beautiful sound. I have a few other assorted Carlton ornaments. Some of the Pillsbury Doughboy ones are pretty neat.

Main Attraction is a really neat ornament, similar in detail and quality to some of the older Enesco ornaments. I don't have any of the Hallmark ornaments that you can record a message on, so this ornament was sort of an impulse buy, but ended up being very special to me. It came in the mail as I was leaving to visit my parents. I was spending as much time as possible out there as my Dad was very sick with cancer. On the spur of the moment, I asked my Mom and Dad to record a Christmas message on the ornament. It took a few tries as my Dad was on a very heavy amount of morphine for the pain. His voice is weak, and it is just a simple message from both of my parents "Merry Christmas, Love, Mom and Dad". My Dad passed away a week later. You can also add a picture to this ornament that appears as the movie screen. I haven't added a picture yet, but I plan to add a photo of their wedding. They had been happily married for 49 years, but were not married in the Catholic church due to my Dad having a previous marriage. Church doctrine has relaxed over the last few years and the church my parents attend has a really wonderful priest who married them in the church less than a year before my Dad passed away. It was a very special moment for my parents. We do hav the wedding on videotape and other tapes with my Dad on them. I've collected a fairly decent Hallmark collection over the last few years, but Main Attraction is the now the ornament in my collection that means the most to me, more than the #1 FF or any of the other ornaments.

Hi Tim, you betcha I would~! Despite my parents and grandparents sexist opposition and early attempts to prevent me from learning how to shoot and handle a firearm . . . I eventually grew up and purchased a couple of pistols (.22 cheap ammo for target practice & a .357 for protection/self-defense). I also joined the Fort Worth Rifle & Pistol Club and practiced frequently and became quite proficient with both. I hope to share a wide variety of "motherly advice" with her, including gun safety & use . . . in addition to the normal mother/daughter makeup & fluff type stuff in the years to come AND a year or two of karate lessons won't hurt either although right now she prefers tap, jazz & ballet~!

Deanna

p.s. OH MY . . . my kids are working hard to earn their Saturday morning weekly allowance payment and my 8 yr. old son just asked me to "let" him vacuum his room so we had a little vacuuming "lesson" with my Dyson Animal (most wonderful vacuum cleaner I've ever owned) and he even borrowed *my* FlyLady Ultimate FLY Duster~! LOL

Glad to hear that, Deanna! I had better luck than you when a child. I got my BB gun and practiced long hours in the backyard with the hay bales for a backdrop. I also got the bow and arrows that I wanted another time. I felt like I "had" to ask for a doll each Christmas, but then I never played with them and gave them to my sister who loved dolls.

Linda

P.S. And when Bill was 4 and everyone was getting Cabbage Patch kids, I let him have a doll. That kind of bothered my dad, but I think Bill still turned out OK.

Linda, one year when my sister and I were around 5 or 6, we asked our Mother, "Do we have to get another doll for Christmas?" and she finally had a lightbulb moment and quit buying us dolls. We prefered sports stuff like baseball, tetherball, basketball, football, race track sets, bicycles, etc. instead. She quit the dolls but continued to give us a new box of Crayola Crayons and some type of coloring book until we left home~! I still love the smell of a brand new box~! In 10th grade we did Archery in P.E. and although I could hit the target, my arrows would just bounce off the target/hay bale and fall to the ground.

Deanna

p.s. I bought Steven a "doll" too when he was little. One of those Anne Geddes babies in a teddy bear outfit.

Picked up my Carlton ornaments today and EVERYTHING in the store was buy one get one 50% off including Heartwood Creek by Jim Shore collection, Yankee Candle, EVERYTHING~! It would have been cheaper for me to order online and pay the 6.95 shipping vs. what I wound up spending~!
