I just received my Fall For Keeps and was reading the article about the inspiration for this new series.

The Santa design for this ornament is from an archived card by artist Vivian Smith, who worked at Hallmark from 1924 - 1970.

Do you remember the days of the MEMORY CARD in our ornament boxes? If you do, wouldn't it have been really cool for this new Vintage Greetings series if Hallmark would have taken a snapshot of that original inspirational Hallmark Card/artwork, added a two liner note to it saying year card was released and who that original Hallmark card artist was?

In my mind, think they missed the mark by not doing something like that for a new series being developed off of old Hallmark archived work.

I can just picture the ornaments in this series on a special shelf, with a memory card on a tiny easel slightly behind them. That would have made this vintage series something really cool to collect and display, by both the young and the old.

Guess I'll just make my own memory card using info from For Keeps so I can display it either on a tiny easel next to the ornament on a shelf or put my memory card in a tiny frame and hang it on the tree next to or behind the ornament. One way or the other, knowing the information in the For Keeps, my ornament will have a memory card. Hope they leak out info on inspiration for all the other pieces planned for this series so I can make Memory Cards for them too. My mind is already spinning with series display possibilities (huge smile...lol).

FYI, this ornament wasn't on my wish list (figured I had enough Santas), but it is now and I can't wait to see more ornaments in this series!!!

Off to start work on my Memory Card for this ornament!

Wasn't on my list either.
I wanted to wait and see it in person.

Sometimes the colors look weird.

I am hoping that we see him on a Christmas Card. Hallmark has been featuring some the ornaments on cars, so I am keeping my fingers crossed!

That is a good idea. I read where they have ornaments and stuff dating back to the 17th century. I have gone to retro cards to get some of those designs of the 50's and 60's.

I checked and I had already pre-ordered this ornament on my wish list. Nice to learn about the back story. The older I get the more I like the retro vintage items.

Over on Digital Dreambook they show some cute vintage items that will be available this season. They even have some vintage inspired glass ornaments as well.

I bought this year's Santa, but I don't plan on keeping up on the series.

Why don't you want to keep up with it? Do you not like the second one? I find I am drawn toward vintage / retro looking decor more and more. The originals were before my time but there is something comforting in them. Even the recreations.

I think the second one is cute. How many times does a snowman ski on candy canes?

This year's wasn't originally on my list, but I liked the story about the original greeting card artist that I decided to get the ornament.

I will wait to see more pics and read more about the original artwork before I make decide whether to buy the snowman.

Update...

I read online recently that someone found a pack of vintage Hallmark snowman cards that match the picture of the #2 in series Vintage Greetings "Snowman" ornament coming out in 2025. If a pack could be found, then there must be more vintage cards of the Snowman ornament, so the search is on for many collectors of the Vintage Greetings ornament series.

As to the vintage Hallmark cards for #1 Santa ornament, haven't heard of anyone finding the actual vintage die-cut Santa card pictured in Fall 2024 For Keeps yet, but have heard that some vintage non-die-cut Hallmark cards with that same Santa graphic have been found (only difference is the words "Merry Christmas" are above the Santa graphic i/o in the sack and the sack is filled with toys he's been putting in the stockings). If non-die cut cards have been found, then eventually someone will also find the vintage die-cut card version too.

So, the treasure hunt continues...for many of us collectors that is the real fun of collecting...the "HUNT". To finally find what you searched long and hard for is the icing on the cake! That jump up and down, grinning from ear-to-ear moment.

So here is hoping that more vintage Hallmark card collections with hidden treasures appear on-line!!!
