If you have new business that you'd like to discuss, please post here. New business can't result in polls being run after this meeting is over, but if discussed again next month, polls can take place then.
Thank you, Gigi Burke, VP

I mentioned on the other club board about The Yuleloggers submitting an entry for the Talent Contest for the KOC Event this year. I volunteered to chair a committee and suggested an idea for the talent: a slideshow featuring some of the many beautiful photos Yuleloggers have submitted over the years from the decorating contests - focusing mainly on Christmas photos featuring mainly Hallmark ornaments. There has been a lot of support for the idea on the thread.
I don't think this is the kind of issue that needs to go to vote - it is something the officers could probably decide upon. There are a lot of other issues that relate to entering the contest that will need to be decided - such as prize distribution and perhaps a second committee for making a dvd available for club members to purchase.

I had mentioned in an email to Diana that I thought the slideshow of Yuleloggers decorations was a great idea. Taking it one step further, and unrelated to the contest, would be to create a separate second DVD.
Where the contest DVD would need to be rather short (I'm not sure what the contest requirements are) a second one could be much longer. There have been so many wonderful photos posted, Elaine's house, Taj's decorations and Queli's Barbie settings just of the top of my head. Others individual pictures, past decorating contests photos, new pictures being entered for the contest, these could all be gathered together on one DVD. So often wonderful pictures come up but by the very nature of the board, they get relegated farther and farther back, until often times they're really hard to locate.
I think it was Nancy C. who originally mentioned on the public board that if a second DVD could be put together with all of these kinds of pictures we could offer them for sale on the board as a possible charity fundraiser.
All that being said, I'm not sure what's involved or what any of the costs would be but maybe it's something we could discuss doing?

I love the idea. It sounds like a great way to use lots of Yulelog members photo's of decorating.

I support the idea as well. My only concern is the possible overlap with the individual photo decorating contest. If an individual Yulelogger's photo was used in the group slideshow, would they still be eligible to enter the individual photo decorating contest? If the club won and the individual member won, would that person be eligible to get two of the prize ornaments?

I believe we'd have to get permission from each member for any photos used in the club entry. If a member was concerned about not being chosen for the individual photo contest they could decide against letting the club use it for the talent entry.
There is nothing in the rules prohibiting using the same photos in both contests, but it could possibly hurt chances in either division if the judges see the same image too many times. Only Hallmark would be able to answer that question with certainty though.
Perhaps it would be best if we limited club entries only to photos not being submitted for the individual photo contest?

What kind of expense will there be to make a DVD for the Talent Search Contest?

I can think of only two expenses: 1. The cost of one DVD. I think I can donate that. ; ) 2. Mailing it in - a padded envelope, DVD case, postage. Probably around $5 total.

I'm sorry, being fairly new to this club, could someone please tell me why we haven't made a motion to enter the Talent Contest for the KOC Event this year? Is it up to the Officers or the whole Club to decide if we enter the contest? Thanks for your help!

Joyce, a member needs to make a motion. Then, after the meeting (or after the next meeting, if that's not too late) we'll have a vote.

OK, I'd like to make a motion that the Yuleloggers Club enters the Local Club Talent Contest.
I would like my prior Yulelogger decorating photos to be added to those being entered in the contest.
Anyone like to second the motion?

What determines if there is a vote after this meeting or having to wait until after the next meeting?

What determines if there is a vote after this meeting or having to wait until after the next meeting? Seems Lindafay asked why this was the case many months ago as it is not in the bylaws and she asked who/what/why set this precedent and no one ever answered her to my knowledge. It seems like this "rule" has been told at the opening of the meeting for so long (years) that people now think it is a "real" rule . . . you know IF you say something often enough and long enough people then believe it. Considering the low number of actual votes in most all YuleLogger polls, I really don't think it would matter IF something was discussed for one month or two and make an impact on the outcome. That is my personal opinion/take on it. IF someone can shed more light on this . . . please enlighten the rest of us "newcomers". Deana

Well, looking at the bylaws, I'm not sure why this would even have to go to a vote. The Board may vote upon issues that do not need the entire membership to vote. The board may appoint a club position (chair of a talent entry committee, for instance). And the board can make decisions and spend up to $150 without a vote from the membership. $5 is WAY under $150.
I'm hoping the board will step up and just make a decision on this as waiting a month or more will severely hamper the ability to get this project done.
btw - formal motions were ousted from this club years ago. There just needs to be a "suggestion' and support for it. I've never seen a topic over the past several years where a motion was even requested before.
Copied from the Yuleloggers' website:
Article IV: Duties of the Board Section 1: The Board may vote upon issues that do not require the vote of the entire club. Section 2: The Board may appoint necessary club positions and shall list all appointments on the club website. Section 3: With a Board majority vote, they may spend up to $150.00 of the club's funds on a club expenditure without a vote from the membership. Payments of over $150 may be made without a vote when the payment is for items where monies have already been received ie: the club ornaments or club shirts, and the payment going out is equal to the amount that has been received.

That sure would speed things up . . . otherwise timing could easily cause problems with deadlines since those working on the project more than likely also have jobs and families and can't wait until the last minute and devote large blocks of time to finishing an entry on time.

Do we need a formal motion for new pins? - Karen
BTW........I don't receive emails from Yulelog about polls on Yahoo? Where do you go to vote on polls and how do you know when there are polls to be voted on? I know someone will send me a private email, but it might benefit the membership if everyone knew, as I've been a member for many many years and I don't believe I hae ever been notified nor voted in a poll for this club!

Karen, check your yahoo mail and see if you selected to block emails. I get meeting and poll reminders there. I rarely check yahoo mail though, so only see them when searching for them. LOL. But my other email is overcrowded so I prefer to keep the YL stuff at yahoo.

I would like to see the Board act on this immediately. If this club is going to enter the contest, time is ticking away fast. Its going to take alot of work to get this all together and be a class work of art to present. Come on Board Members, please make this a reality.
